Subject: Chad Wilbanks for Congress Meet-and-Greet

Hey folks,

As one of our friends and a member of the community I know you already received this from me, but I wanted to “ping” you again.

Based on a couple questions, I want to clarify a few facts about Chad. As you know, he is President of LTYA. What you may not know is that he was not at the “helm” of LTYA years ago when two-separate online registration companies stole funds from the Association. He was the soccer commissioner at the time (whose budget was impacted), so he asked the right questions, looked for reasonable solutions, one which resulted in all online transactions being brought in house and having an outside firm perform an audit. He was subsequently nominated and elected by his peers to lead LTYA.

Chad immediately added a licensed CPA to watch over the books and an attorney to “button-up” all the LTYA contracts and paperwork – as LTYA Board volunteers. He also hired an Executive Director. I won’t tell you everything is perfect, but Chad has made great improvements. He also teamed up with Haythem Dawlett of Rough Hollow and Steve Zbranek of Zbranek & Holt Custom Homes who generously donated $150,000 to LTYA. That donation is secure and not part of LTYA’s general funds.

Chad is currently running against 8 candidates in this congressional district that stretches from West Austin to Ft. Worth, including Lakeway, Bee Caves, Lake Travis, Westlake, Marble Falls, Dripping Springs, and other local communities. Only one candidate has any ties to our community and that is Chad Wilbanks, who has called Lake Travis home for 12 years where he started a business and a family. He is also the only candidate that has kids in LTISD – or any public or private school in the district for that matter. The district covers Westlake, Lake Travis, Marble Falls and Horseshoe Bay, Dripping Springs, Steiner, and on up towards Waco. In fact, with the exception of Chad, nearly all the other candidates have no connection to this district. How would you like to have someone representing you, your family, and your neighbors who lives in Arlington, Highland Village, Belton, Dallas, and San Antonio? Not!

Please join Holly and me at Rough Hollow next Wednesday, March 7th from 6:30-7:30PM and hear what Chad has to say, give him our support, eat some good food, and YOU DECIDE WHO YOU SHOULD VOTE FOR. It’s 1 hour. I at least want to know something about the candidates before I go to the polls and I know where my vote is going.

Hope to see you there. Thanks again!

Details: It’s time to Believe in Better!

A friend of our family – Chad Wilbanks – is running for Congress on the Republican ticket in a district that stretches from Austin to Ft. Worth, including our home in Lake Travis. We hope you will come join us for a “Meet-and-Greet” reception with Chad to hear more about his ideas for our country and community. Chad lives here in Lake Travis! This is a family friendly event.

Chad is a husband. Father. Business Owner. President of the Lake Travis Youth Association. And, all-round good guy.

He is running for Congress because Chad believes in the greatness of America.

But he also recognizes that confidence in government has collapsed. Across the country, millions of Americans are looking for work. The United States military is funded on money borrowed from foreign countries. The national debt is a staggering $15.3 trillion. Two solar firms on the verge of bankruptcy received $1 billion. And the Oval Office has a bystander president.

That is why Chad needs our help to undo the mess Congress made.

Chad believes all of us can rise to the occasion to put America back on the path to prosperity. As a business owner and active member of our community, he understands that a big government agenda only punishes businesses instead of encouraging innovation.

Let’s help Chad restore America’s optimism in 2012, so that we too, like Ronald Reagan, can say ‘It’s Morning Again in America.’

Bee Cave City Council. – 2-28-12

1) Michael Kleinman appeared during citizen comments seeking approval to open Planet K.  He had harsh words for the Council but did not address his current sign ordinance violations other than to say he would come in compliance with our ordinances if the permit is granted.  He hopes for an election this year.

2) The Council considered participating in a Household Hazardous Waste Removal Event and agreed to particpate financially up to 9k.   the event will take place May 19, 2012.

3) First Star Bank submitted a new site plan amendment which was approved.  This will be located on the pad site near Chili’s.

4) Cielo Homes Phase 1 re-applied for a permit in our ETJ for construction of the multi-family project originally approved in 2005 and 2007.  This project is located across the street from Falconhead on Highway 620.   The Council approved the project contingent on receiving approval from the City of Austin.

5) The Council approved change order #4 for Bee Cave Parkway construction in the amount of 33,342.10 for creation of four headwalls and extension of contract for 50 days.  Ranger believes the project will be complete around 9/15/12, but they will have until 11/2/12.

6) The Council hired Sledge Engineering to design erosion control devices for the area under the bridge at Central Park.

7) Auspro sought a temporary vendor’s permit which the Council considered and denied unanimously. The Council assured that if the group were to come in compliance with its ordinances, such as signs, a permit would be considered.

Jay Haus appeared to speak in opposition.  He and his wife own Estancia, the furniture store adjacent to the old Trading Post.  Last year they grew their business 11%. However, since January 1, they are down 38%.

City of Bee Cave v Planet K (AusPro Enterprises)- Temporary Restraining Order

AUSPRO ENTERPRISES L.P. vs. CITY OF BEE CAVE

On February 15th, Judge Lora Livingston issued an order that preserves the status quo pending a full hearing on the matter on February 29th. The City of Bee Cave applauds the seriousness with which the court addressed this matter, and joins the court in its desire to have a clear view of the law and facts of the case. The City of Bee Cave looks forward to its opportunity to present its side of the story, with testimony from citizens of the City of Bee Cave. The City is confident that once all facts are presented to the court, justice will prevail. Due to the pending litigation that is currently ongoing, the City has no further comment.

Per the inspector, waiting for power to be connected and for striping. Hopefully will be flashing in 14 days or so, then turned on when the signal shop can schedule in the activation.

Attached is information sent on Jan 24. The application for the electrical service has been turned in. Poles may go up next week. If things go smooth, the signal may be working mid to late February (depending on the Signal Shop’s schedule).

Bee Cave City Council 2.14.12- Bob Dorsett, Jr.- Dorsett Johnson & Swift

2.14.12  – City Council Meeting

1) The Council granted a sign variance for the Riviera Bistro located immediately to the north of Bodhi Yoga and to the south of Mandola’s.

2) The Council considered action  on an Amended Site and NPS plan for Austin Tennis Academy located at 6800 Spanish Oaks Boulevard allowing for the addition of two additional tennis courts.

3) The Council considered acton on the land immediately to the east of the McDonalds within the Hill Country Galleria.   Essentially, the re-plat creates pad sites for future buildings and moves the current water quality ponds to the lot adjacent to Gold’s Gym.    Since this is a transfer of impervious cover, this land will not be subject to the 380 agreement.

4) The Council considered adopting a franchise agreement with Texas Gas who plans to bring a natural gas line through the City and into Ladera Ranch and potentially out to Sweetwater.       The Council agreed that the arrangement should be pursued.

5) Chief Pancoast presented his racial profiling report to the Council illustrating that no particular racial group has been subject to disproportionate contacts or bias actiions by the Bee Cave police department.

On a side note, I had to visit the new police facility this week to be fingerprinted for my application to the Oklahoma bar exam.   The new facilities are very nice and indicative of a formal police station.    It is my understanding that the Department just became recognized as an official agency.

6) The Council entered a new engagement letter with Patillo, Brown & Hill for audit services for the current fiscal year.   There was only a $250.00 increase over last year’s cost.

7) The Council approved the purchase Content/Document Management Suite.

National Restaurant Association- Risk Conference 2.7.12

I attended the National Restaurant Association annual risk conference in Las Vegas, NV this week.   It was good to collaborate with many of the restaurant groups and defense attorneys regarding the risk and HR issues currently facing restaurants.   Judge Kinkade from the Northern District of Texas also spoke and it was fun seeing him since he taught me ethics in law school.   Great event.

Falconhead West Mountain Bike Trail Update- 1.26.12

If you haven’t been on the trail lately (or yet), it is worth a trip. The rains this winter have washed away much of the loose sand and gravel that made the trail powdery and difficult to climb. This past week my daughter and I marked a .4 of a mile addition to the lower loop where empty land was going unused and it appears riders have already taken to it. I found two nice arrowheads out there today after being compelled to walk out of the canyon when my chain busted at the bottom wash. The trails have a great deal of potential for more single track. I am interested to know who the regular riders are so we can get together.

Bee Cave City Council Meeting 1.24.12- Bob Dorsett, Jr.

City Council 1.24.12

1)  Council discussed the audit report for fiscal year ending September 30, 2011.   The highlights included that revenues were 8,244,000.00 and expenditures were 6,846,000.00.    There were no concerns of the city’s fund balances to address.  The audit was completed by Pattillo, Brown & Hill.

2) Soma Intimates, national retailer,  soon to be located in the Hill Country Galleria requested requested to revise the entrance (previously Team Spirit) to fit its brand image.  The motion passed.

3)  Tim Skaggs appeared to discuss a variance to place a storm sewer in a water quality buffer zone.    He also asked to have previously approved agreements updated to meet with the timing of today’s application.    The requests were approved.

4)  Mr. Skaggs also appeared requesting a special event permit for the Farmer’s Market in Bee Cave.    This is a request to re-new his permit for the Farmer’s Market.   The only change is that the bar b que tenant is moving off site.   Mr. Skaggs said he may sell hot dogs or hamburgers on market days and any such sale will comply with codes.

5)  The Council accepted the improvements (“the stub on highway 71”) on Bee Cave Parkway Phase IIIA.

6) The Huntington Learning Center requested a variance to essentially double the size of an allowed sign.  This shop location used to be “smartie pantz).    The request was approved with agreement that the applicant will not be requesting an awning sign or blade sign

7)  The City of Bee Cave police department recently submitted proposed new policies and procedures.  The Department is seeking approval of the new measures as a part of the Best Practices recognition program.   The new policies and procedures were approved.

Lake Travis Football Banquet- 1.15.12

I was pleased and honored to be invited to the 2012 Lake Travis Cavalier annual football banquet held at the Renaisance hotel at the Arboretum last night. Coach Carter and his team of volunteers did an amazing job of coordinating the event and letting the players, parents, administration and guests know just how special this season was.

Dr. Lancaster was present for his first banquet as the new Lake Travis superintendent and he made a great speech regarding his team for Waco – Midway and the fact that he must be the only superintendent in the history of the state that left one state championship game school and went to another. He was welcomed and if his presentation at the banquet was any type of indication, he will be a great leader for our district.

The coaches and senior players had some emotional words for each other. However, when it is all said and done, the machine moves on. There are 9 returning offensive players and 7 defensive. LT is ready for 5a.
